In 2014 the Center for Suicide Awareness launched the HOPELINE™, a first-of-its-kind emotional support text line. It was designed to meet people where they are—on their phones—and to offer real-time support from trained crisis counselors. Today, HOPELINE™ connects people of all ages to free, 24/7 emotional care, whether they’re in crisis or just need someone to listen. You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable. Connection doesn’t have to be complicated.

Every year, thousands of people reach out to HOPELINE™ for reasons big and small:

  • A fight with a loved one

  • Stress at work or school

  • Grief or loss

  • Anxiety, depression, or panic

  • Suicidal thoughts or urges

  • Loneliness or feeling overwhelmed

For many, HOPELINE™ is the first time they’ve ever told someone how they’re really feeling. That one text can be the first step toward hope.
