Wisconsin EMS Honor Guard

​​The purpose of the Uniform policy is to (1) Provide descriptions of all authorized WI EMS HG uniforms and components, and (2) Provide guidance for all activities prescribing uniform wear in order to present a professional uniform image statewide. Any procedures or components, regarding uniforms or grooming not discussed in these regulations are prohibited.   


POLICY 

  1. This policy will apply to all Wisconsin EMS Honor Guard (WIEMSHG) personnel. 
  2. District commanding officers are responsible for training the personnel to ensure proper compliance. 
  3. All districts and all members are responsible to abide by this policy.  
  4. The WI EMS HG uniform is worn with pride and dignity. All uniform components shall be maintained free of needed repair, clean, and free of obvious signs of wear. The uniform is limited  to the requirements and shall contain only the appropriate accessories as listed in this policy. 
  5. All personnel shall keep themselves properly uniformed at all times while at a funeral or event. 
  6. Uniform apparel shall not be worn casually. 
  7. Facial jewelry, such as eyebrow rings, nose rings, lip rings and tongue studs, is not permitted to be worn during 

           funerals or events. 

  1. Tattoos/Ink shall be covered by uniform. 
  2. National vendors are listed for reference. If a WI EMS HG chapter has a local supplier that can match in detail

           the uniform piece, you are free to purchase from any supplier. 


     

Our Uniform

1. Cover:

Members: 

  • “Five star" or "Navy" style cover. 
  • White in color, plain black visor. Blue and gold chin strap. 
  • Cover device is Blue Star of Life with gold trim 1.5 - 1.75"    
  • Chaplain cover device is shiny gold cross 1” to 1.25” 


2. Dress Shirt

The uniform shirt is to be clean, pressed, fitted and properly worn. Components of the formal uniform shirt are as follows:

  • The shirt will be a long sleeve buttoned white perma‐pressed with badge tab reinforcements, epaulets, pleated pockets with lined scalloped flaps and hook and loop closures.
  • Shirt pocket flaps shall be buttoned at all times. Pockets shall be free of objects that create bulges or that otherwise detract from a professional appearance.
  • WI EMS HG patch will to be worn on the shoulders with the top of the patch one inch from the shoulder seam.
  • Gold Caduceus each collar, centered on the collar with 0.25‐inch of collar visible on either side of any insignia Caduceus positioned so lower point points toward the collar tip.
  • Executive Officers Eagle or District Commanders Five‐point Chief star positioned so a point points toward the midline proximal to the collar tip.
  • Name tag attaches ¼” above the right pocket flap. Service Badge shall be affixed above left pocket flap. The shirt will be kept free and clear of all other badges, patches, pins, decorations, etc.
  • A plain white t‐shirt shall be worn under uniform shirts. Colored t‐shirts or those containing graphics or lettering are not allowed. Uniform shirts must be tucked into trousers.


 3. Neck tie

  • Clip on, Velcro fastener, or dress tie. Dark Navy in color (matching jacket and pants), 3” hand with buttonhole feature to secure tie to shirt. 


4. Class “A” Dress Jacket

  • Class “A” Jacket is Navy Blue double breasted.  Women may have single breasted suit depending on fit from uniform shop.
  • Six button front (button with Star of Life logo).      
  • Two pocket flap front,  
  • Badge tab (left), name tag flap (right).
  • WI EMS HG patch will to be worn on the shoulders with the top of the patch one inch from the shoulder seam.   
  • Gold Caduceus each collar, centered on the collar, and positioned as noted. 0.25‐inch of collar must be visible on either side of any insignia Caduceus positioned so lower point points toward the collar tip. Match the set on shirt.
  • Epaulets. Sewn emblem:  Commander Gold Star; Executive Office Gold Eagle; Chaplain Gold Cross.
  • Members: 1.5” - 1.75" round emblem Star of Life design Metallic Gold with royal blue star of life. 
  • An National EMS Memorial Oak Leaf shall be worn on the right lapel for members who have participated in the National Memorial Service as an Honor Guard member.
  • No other emblems, medals, patches, or ribbons shall adorn the jacket.
  • Sleeve Stripes: Stripe for Jacket is two color ¾” wide. Center at ½” Royal Blue, piped each side by Yellow. This stripe color matches pants.

            1 stripe:   All members

            2 stripes: Training Officers & Chaplain(s)

            3 stripes: Executive Officers

            4 stripes: District Commander

            5 stripes: State Commander


 5. Honor Guard Cord

  • Bright cord in two colors Royal Blue (dominate color) and Gold (yellow), single citation card with a brass tip, button loop. Attaches under left shoulder epaulet.


6. Dress Slacks/Pants
The dress sacks are to be clean, pressed, fitted and properly worn. Components of the formal uniform trousers are as follows:

  • Uniform trousers shall be navy blue in color. Material will be perma‐press. No jeans or wrinkle type material.
  • Trousers shall be designed as 4 pocket dress slacks, front and back permanent military creases. Traditional EMT field pants with equipment pockets are not appropriate.
  • Trousers are to be worn with a black or navy blue belt. No suspenders will be allowed.
  • Vertical strip on the legs will be 1” Royal blue with 1/8” Yellow gold piping on each side of strip, which matches color of jacket stripes, simply wider royal blue.

7. Trench Coat /Rain Coat

  • Class “A” knee length overcoat.        
  • Badge tab (left), name tag flap (right).
  • WI EMS HG patch will to be worn on the shoulders with the top of the patch one inch from the shoulder seam.   
  • Gold Caduceus each collar, centered on the collar, and positioned as noted. 0.25‐inch of collar must be visible on either side of any insignia Caduceus positioned so lower point points toward the collar tip. 
  • Epaulets. Sewn emblem:  Commander Gold Star; Executive Office Gold Eagle; Chaplain Gold Cross.
  • Members: 1.5” - 1.75" round emblem Star of Life design Metallic Gold with royal blue star of life. 
  • An National EMS Memorial Oak Leaf shall be worn on the right lapel for members who have participated in the National Memorial Service as an Honor Guard member.

8. Shoes

  • Perma‐shine high‐gloss finish Black only. Socks made of material of your choice in black.


9. Accessories

  • White Gloves: Honor Guard members shall wear pure white cotton or cotton/poly gloves during color/honor guard presentation and events.
  •  Badge: WI EMS HG Badge is provided through the State HG Association for each member, and remains property of the State Association. This badge shall be worn only on the class “A” jacket affixed to badge tab for authorized events. For class “B” events (shirt only/no jacket) it shall be worn on the dress shirt affixed to badge tab. The badge shall not be worn or displayed in any other fashion. If lost or stolen, it must be reported to the WI EMS HG Association through your district commander.  
  •  Name Tag: A name tag for the class “A” Jacket shall be purchased by the member. The name tag is gold in color with Black block letters. Tag size is ¾” x 3” with military clutch back attachments. No logos or emblems. Line one is the members name, line two is Wisconsin EMS Honor Guard. Commanders will have a third line “District Commander” or “State Commander”.
  • The Oak Leave is purchased by an individual and shall be work on the right lapel as a sign of participation in the National EMS Memorial Service upon completion of the first service.
  •  No other pins, badges, patches or decorations shall be worn on the WI EMS HG uniform.
  • WI EMS HG Patch: The WI EMS HG Patch is available to approved HG units through the state association. It shall not be affixed to any other except approved Class "A" uniform approved by the Executive Board​.
