LINE OF DUTY DEATH
WATERSMEET, Mich. - Klint Kody Mitchell, 30, of Watersmeet, was born on Christmas Eve of 1987, the youngest of five children of Joe and Kathi (Gordert) Mitchell. He lived in Luzerne, Wis., until he finished nursing school, and moved to the Upper Peninsula. He worked as flight nurse, and was taken from this world on April 26, 2018, in a helicopter crash in Wisconsin.
Klint was an avid houndsman and breeder of Foley Swamp Plott Hounds. He was active in the American Plott Hound Association, Upper Peninsula Bear Houndsman Association, a member of the Michigan Bear Hunter's Association, Michigan Hunting Dog Federation and the Wisconsin Bear Hunters Association. He spent countless hours training his hounds and hunting with friends and family. He was also a proud Patron Life Member of the NRA.
No one loved life more than Klint. If there was fun to be had, he'd be there. And, if fun was absent, he'd bring it. He had four sisters that shared that genetic trait. When the five of them were together, tables got danced on and lots of beer got drank.
There wasn't a person alive that Klint wouldn't introduce himself to and share hunting stories with. Klint loved to talk, and would go out of his way to meet people. This earned him the nickname of, "the mayor" from his siblings. He was absolutely hilarious, had an abundance of friends, and his main mission was to have a great time with them as often as he could. This sometimes meant driving hundreds of miles, across states, and hours behind the wheel.
His greatest pride was his family. He met the love of his life, Lindsey, in Bruce Crossing, on Halloween in 2011. He was a phenomenal father to his son, Lincoln, and was excited to welcome a daughter in May.
He leaves behind Lindsey, Lincoln, and his soon-to-be-born baby girl; his mother, Kathi; sisters, Niki (Bo) Fisher, Gin (Dan) Kozlowski, Tika (Steve) Cowie and Jessi (Kyle) Joyce; nieces, Paige, Teegan and Aubrey; nephews, Chaz, Zane and Gus; and many cousins and friends that he treated like family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Ester (Fountain) Gordert, and Everett (Pick) and Lois (Buchanan) Mitchell; and his father, Joe, AKA Big Pappy J.
He lived to the fullest and loved just as hard. The family asks that if you would like to honor Klint, go be fearless. Take the jump, and do something that you've been scared to do.
A celebration of life for Klint will take place in Mio at a later date while we wait the arrival of Baby Girl Mitchell.
